Privacy Policy
The short version: your progress lives on your phone, purchases live with Apple, and we do not sell personal information. We use privacy-preserving product analytics to understand coarse app usage. Your voice (if you ever grant the microphone) goes through Apple's speech recognition system, not ours. The rest of this document is the long version, written because Apple requires us to write it, and because we want to be honest about it.
§ 01Who we are
"Chinese Radicals" (the "App") is a single-player learning game published for iPhone by an independent developer ("we", "us"). This privacy policy explains what information the App handles, how, and what choices you have. It applies to the App and the websites at the same root domain.
§ 02What we collect
We collect only coarse product analytics. The App uses TelemetryDeck to understand app launches, visit starts, visit completions, boss encounters, paywall views, app version, OS version, device model, bundle ID, product interaction data, and TelemetryDeck's anonymous installation or session identifiers.
We use this information only for analytics and product improvement. We do not use it for advertising, do not use it for cross-app tracking, and do not link it to your identity. We do not send names, email addresses, precise location, raw microphone audio, speech transcripts, or raw stroke paths to TelemetryDeck.
Stored locally on your device
- Game progress. Which rebels you've visited, your trust score per rebel, your current region, your completed regions, and your audio/settings preferences. Stored in iOS UserDefaults under the key
native-chinese-radicals-progress-v1. Deleted when you delete the App. - StoreKit receipts. When you subscribe, iOS stores your purchase receipt locally and validates it with Apple. We see only whether your subscription is active.
Processed by Apple, on your behalf
- Speech recognition (optional). The pronunciation mini-game asks the system to listen to a single Chinese syllable and tell us whether it matches. We use Apple's SFSpeechRecognizer via a small on-device acoustic model. Recordings are not retained by the App and are not sent to our servers (we don't have any). Apple's handling of speech audio is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
- In-app purchases. Region 2's subscription (monthly and yearly) is processed by Apple via StoreKit. Apple is the merchant of record. We do not see your payment information.
§ 03What we don't do
- We do not collect personal information such as your name, email, phone number, address, or contacts.
- We do not collect IDFA or advertising IDs.
- We do not use cookies in the App. The website uses no third-party cookies.
- We do not show ads. We do not sell access to your attention.
- We do not share, sell, rent, or trade personal information.
§ 04Permissions
The App requests two permissions, both optional, both only at the moment you first try to use the feature that needs them:
- Microphone. Used solely to score pronunciation attempts. Audio is not stored. Decline to keep the mic disabled and the pronunciation beat will fall back to a tap-to-pass button.
- Speech Recognition. Used together with the microphone for syllable-level pronunciation scoring. Same scope as above.
§ 05Children
Chinese Radicals is suitable for younger players but does not specifically target children. Because we do not collect personal information from anyone, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent and you believe your child has somehow provided us with information, please contact us — though we do not maintain user accounts, so there is no account record for us to look up.
§ 06Data retention & deletion
Progress and settings data are stored locally. To delete local App data, delete the App. You can also use the in-game settings menu to reset your progress without uninstalling. TelemetryDeck analytics data is retained according to TelemetryDeck's service settings and is not tied to a user account in the App.
§ 07International users
The App is available worldwide via the Apple App Store. Because the App does not use accounts and analytics are not linked to your identity, most access, correction, and deletion requests are satisfied through controls on your device, such as deleting the App or resetting progress. CCPA "do not sell" requests are honored by default because we do not sell personal information.
§ 08Changes to this policy
If we ever change the App in a way that changes its privacy posture — for example, by adding optional cloud sync — we will update this policy and increment the version above before that change ships. The policy you accepted at install will not retroactively become more invasive.
